Spring Wishlist: Topshop

1 2 3 4

5 6 7 8

I think this year I want to try create a capsule wardrobe for each season. The past few years I've had my student loan to keep my wardrobe stocked up but now I have no stable income I need to choose a few key pieces to keep reworking in different ways. I really love the two blouses in the top row, I think they could be so versatile. I'd probably wear them with body con skirts, denim shorts, and smart trousers. I think the white one could look quite boho with some gladiator sandals and a floral headband - bring on festival season! I really like the mint coloured blouse too, nothing says 'Hello Sunshine' like than pastel colours. I'd probably wear it with skinny jeans and flats during the day and then just swap for some killer heels for evening outings. The bottom row aren't really necessities but I thought they were pretty!

What will you be wearing this spring?

Customer Service

Last Wednesday saw the start of the new serious, Mary Portas: Secret Shopper on Channel 4. That particular episode saw her take on the High Street, including shops like Primark, H&M, Zara & Pilot in an attempt to discover which stores offered good customer service and what changes could be made to improve it. (For those of you that missed it you can find it here)

Over the last couple of weeks I've been trying to find work in retail so I've noticed more and more of the customer service being offered on the high street.
Here are few of by observations:

Thumbs Up:
Oasis - After noticing an advert in the window for a Sales Advisor I skipped on in and asked to speak to the manager about it. The manager was more than happy to take time out to talk to me about the job. I then skipped back out of the store dreaming about working there with such lovely people!
Urban Decay - Normally I avoid MUA's because I feel like they're judging me but this particular guy was so lovely! I went in to see if they had any more Naked Pallets (they did! Apparently they've been into permanent stock!) and this guy was so helpful in telling me what colours would suit me more and what sort of looks I could create with it. He made me feel so comfortable, I felt like we had been friends for years! Most importantly, he made me leave with a smile on my face.

Thumbs Down:
Ted Baker Again, I'd seen an advert for a Sales Advisor and gone in to hand a C.V to the Manager. Firstly, I was waiting ages at the till for someone to come over and speak to me as they were all busy having a chat. The girl that did come over, rung her manager who told her to deal with me because she was too busy. So the girl asked me if I had any retail experience and when I said no she said 'what you applying here for then' while another member of staff laughed. If they're looking for someone with experience, fine, but there was no need to be so rude. I will never set foot in there again.
H&M Normally their queues are ridiculous but one day last week I popped in first thing in the morning and the store was dead yet me and one other customer had to wait for someone to notice us, I was just about to put everything back and leave when someone did come over. I wish I had of left because he didn't look at me and all he said was the price. What happened to service with a smile, eh?

I start my first job in retail next week and I'd like to think providing good customer service will not be a problem for me as I'm naturally a happy, polite and helpful person. I actually got the job due to my approach to customer service. Surely companies should be hiring more staff with this sort of view rather than based on how they look/dress (I'm looking at you Topshop).
At the end of the day isn't it a basic rule to treat others how would you like to be treated?

How important is customer service to you? Does it bother you enough to influence where you shop or what you buy?

Review: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation

This free 1.5ml sample (shade beige) came in this months issue of Cosmopolitan. This is my first experience with Chanel foundation, Chanel make-up is something I've always dreamed of owning so I was really excited about getting to finally try it.

The Good: The consistency is really light and watery which makes it really easy to apply. You only need a little bit to cover your whole face too, so I would imagine a full size bottle lasting you a long time. It matched my skin tone perfectly while evening it out and left my skin feeling really soft and smooth.

The Bad: I don't really have any faults with it apart from due to it being quite sheer I don't think it would cover any outbreaks (but that's what concealers for, no?)

The Ugly: The hefty price tag.

Rating: 9/10 - out of the foundations I have tried this is without doubt my favourite, I just wish it was more budget friendly!

Motel Sales Picks

I havent tried anything from Motel before. I've seen their stuff in Topshop but there has always been the problem of me thinking that they will not suit my body shape or that they are too expensive. However, after browsing on their website I have totally fallen in love with them. They have loads of gorgeous items in their christmas sale, these are my favourites.

1. Motel Fiona Dress £17

2. Motel Jean Dress -Feathers £15

3. Motel Elisa Dress £15

4. Motel Lola Dress Cosmic Boogie £15

5. Motel Linda Hibiscus Palm £12

I can see all of these dresses been worn with sandals during the summer, smartened up with a blazer for work and glammed up with heels and clutch bags on nights out. What more could you ask for?! I am particularly loving the colours in the feather dress and the contrast collar on the Elisa Dress.

All dresses can be found here

Which is your favourite?

First Haul Of 2011

I normally hate going to the sales, i'm not one for all the pushing and grabbing. I'm also a bit of an germ freak too (i'm that person who ALWAYS has anti-bacterial hand gel on them...) so all that close contact is not my idea of fun. BUT my christmas money was burning a hole in my pocket and i had nothing else to do with my time so i thought i'd brave them this year.
Heres what i've picked up over the last couple of days.

The topshop sale by me was really disappointing, most of it just appeared to be left over from the summer sale (what makes them think we'd want it now if we didn't want it then...). However, i managed to find a few roses among the thorns.
I've been after a new winter coat for the last couple of months but i've been put off by the prices but this duffle cape was £40 and it was the last one so i took it as a sign! I really like the shape of it, i think it's quite flattering as it hides all the lumps and bumps... i'm not sure if it suits me though. What do you all make of the cape trend?

I then spotted this lovely fluffy jumped in with the summer stuff (it was again the last one). I liked this when it was full price but couldn't really afford it so i'd had my fingers crossed it would go in the sale. It was reduced from £40 down to £25 and i haven't taken it off since i got it - this is definitely my favourite find!

Lastly from Topshop i got this stripey crop top, another top i'd been lusting after full price. It was marked down to £10 from £18 :) I'm planning on wearing this with body con skirts and denim shorts.

Next i went to New Look but the sale was too much of a mess and i didn't fancy routing though it so i just picked up this leopard print peter pan collar tunic (£16.99). I've never been brave enough to embrace leopard print fully so this is perfect for me. I can't wait to wear it!

OOH i almost forgot about my paperchase goodies! Even though i have no need for new stationary i couldn't resist! I paid for £7.30
for both of these. I plan to use the pencil case as a small make up bag and i'm going to use the notebook as a food diary. Worth the pennies? I think so!

Last, but not least, i got this bag from River Island. The bags are what i love most about River Island so i squealed with excitement when i saw this one for only £17. It's split into two sections inside and has lots of little pockets perfect for my phone, lipsticks, etc. I love this so much that as soon as i left the shop i swapped everything from my old bag into this one! Over excited much? ha.

My mum also dragged me round ikea the other day so i thought i'd just add in the bits i picked up from there. This duvet cover screams Cath Kidston but for only £15 it was much purse friendly. I think the basket was only about £6 too. Barginlicious!

I'm so happy with my pretty new things but i'm officially all spent out now. Someone find me a new job? Thanks :)
Have you picked up anything lovely in the sales?
